Scaffolding Safety (Competent Person Training)

Key Learning Objectives

Ability to Recognize and Correct Hazards: A Competent Person should be able to identify potential scaffold hazards and take corrective action to mitigate them.


Proper Assembly and Use: The training will cover scaffold assembly, loading capacity, and structural integrity to ensure that scaffolds are built and used safely.


Fall Protection: Understanding fall protection systems specific to scaffolding, including guardrails, personal fall arrest systems, and other safety gear required on the scaffold.


Inspection Requirements: Competent Persons responsibilities for inspection


Handling Material and Loads: The training will cover safe handling of materials, load limits, and preventing scaffold overloads, including how to handle tools and materials safely at height.


Site-Specific Considerations: Training will address specific site hazards, such as uneven ground or proximity to electrical lines.


Understanding of OSHA Standards: Competent Persons must understand the OSHA standards (Subpart L) as they apply to scaffold safety to ensure the company remains compliant.

Training Goal

To train the company appointed Competent Person designation in the essentials for maintaining workplace safety in scaffolding and is required for most scaffold-related work to comply with safety.
