Fall Protection (Competent Person)

Key Learning Objectives

Identifying Hazards: The Competent Person must be able to recognize existing and potential fall hazards in the work area, such as unguarded edges, unsafe scaffolding, or improperly used personal fall arrest systems.


Correcting Hazards: This person has the authority to stop work and immediately address or rectify hazards to protect workers from falls.


Inspecting Fall Protection Systems: Regular inspections of fall protection equipment, such as harnesses, lanyards, anchor points, and guardrails, are performed by a Competent Person to ensure they are in good condition and safe to use.


Training and Supervision: Oversee workers demonstrate the understanding how to safely use fall protection equipment and comply with safety protocols.


Compliance: Have an understanding of OSHA's Fall Protection requirements and standards.

Overall, a Competent Person in fall protection is crucial for maintaining a safe work environment where fall hazards exist, as they play an active role in hazard mitigation and worker protection.
